Sohn des Hofschneiders Johann Christoph Wohlbrück (1733–1800) und seiner Frau Sophie Christine, geb. Barsch
besuchte in Berlin das Friedrichwerdersche und Joachimsthalsche Gymnasium
nach anfänglicher Buchhandelslehre (bis 1786 bei Haude und Spener) Wechsel zum Theater: debütierte 1789 (oder bereits 1787/88?) bei Gustav Friedrich Wilhelm Großmann, danach 1790 bis 1793 bei Carl Döbbelin (u. a. 1792 in Magdeburg) und 1793/94 bei Carl Gutermann in Schwerin, Stralsund und Rostock
1793 in Rostock Heirat mit der Schauspielerin Maria Anna Mangoldi (alle nachfolgenden Engagements gemeinsam); Geburt des Sohnes Gustav am 27. September 1793 in Barth/Vorpommern
1794 eventuell kurzzeitig bei Jean Tilly
August 1794 bis 1796 bei Großmann in Hannover, Braunschweig, Bremen und Pyrmont; in Hannover Geburt der Söhne Wilhelm August und Ludwig
